Prostate Massage: A Taboo Practice With Therapeutic Benefits

April 22, 2019

prostate massage is bqficial for men

Men suffering from a condition called chronic non-bacterial prostatitis or chronic pelvic pain syndrome reported therapeutic benefits of prostate massage. Muscle tension and not inflammation of the prostate from bacteria may cause Chronic Prostatitis. Men often internalize their stress and may not realize that they may be clenching their pelvic floor muscles without even knowing it. The main symptoms of chronic prostate inflammation (prostatitis)  include frequency of urination, difficulty starting your stream, reduced force in the urinary flow, ache or pain associated with ejaculation, trouble ejaculating or decrease in volume of ejaculate,  an ache in the area between the anus and testicles, chronic vague low back ache, testicular ache. Men may find some relief from their symptoms by wearing an athletic supporter or jockstrap.

Why is Prostate Massage taboo?

Prostate massage was a standard therapy before the 1980s for chronic nonbacterial prostatitis and prostatic enlargement. Some ancient cultures believe that this may enhance virility and erectile health. Men report improved erections and more intense orgasms, while others have reported improvement in premature ejaculation. Claims are untested. However, Assuming you do not have acute bacterial prostatitis, the risk is low and it may be worth a try. Some men see the benefit purely as a way to improve circulation which can be the benefit in and of itself.

There are some things to keep in mind. First, an untrained individual should not try this.  You should be sure that you do not have an active prostate infection before receiving a prostate massage. Your primary care physician or nurse practitioner can do a prostate massage if you have chronic non-bacterial prostatitis, but if you are in a traditional insurance-based practice, they likely will not because it is not a covered procedure and it is a little time-consuming. Therapeutic prostate massage is no longer considered conventional western medicine. It falls under the domain of complementary and alternative medicine.

Additional benefits

So, prostate massage can be a pleasurable experience since many nerve endings are innervating the prostate. Often called the male g-spot. Stimulating the glands internally through the anus and externally along the perineum. Some men will find this awkward or embarrassing and will never want to experience this. Some men for modesty’s sake can wear a jockstrap during the prostate massage. As with any health practice like prostate massage, consistency is vital. A regular prostate massage a couple of times a month may do wonders for erectile dysfunction, improved ejaculation, reduced pelvic pain and tension, and overall sexual performance. Those with enlarged prostates may benefit from weekly prostate massage to promote drainage, minimize swelling and improve urine flow.

Hopefully, you have found this informative, and if you have any questions, please check with your healthcare provider for more information or request an appointment for a comprehensive physical exam. You will be able to ask any questions during your medical house call.
